The best way for a country to prepare for the future is to invest more resources in young people. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is often argued that the optimal approach for nations to secure long-term development is to allocate greater resources to younger populations. While I acknowledge that investing in young people is a high-priority strategy, I disagree that it is the single best method, as other demographic groups and public sectors also deserve equal focus for future preparedness.

On the one hand, increased investment in young people delivers long-term social and economic returns. Young generations will become the core workforce, innovators and leaders in the coming decades. For example, countries such as Finland allocate over 15% of public spending to youth education, vocational training and youth entrepreneurship support, which has cultivated a highly skilled labour force and boosted its global competitiveness in technology and creative industries. Additionally, supporting young people’s mental health and social inclusion can reduce potential social inequality and intergenerational gaps, forming a more stable social foundation for future development.

On the other hand, focusing solely on young people while neglecting other areas is short-sighted. First, ageing populations are a growing trend worldwide; investing in senior citizens’ health care and their continued participation in the workforce can mitigate labour shortages, as seen in Japan’s policies rehiring experienced retired professionals to supplement its shrinking workforce. Second, fundamental sectors such as environmental protection and public health infrastructure benefit all age groups, and underinvestment in these areas will lead to irreversible risks for the entire country, regardless of age-specific investments.

In conclusion, investing in young people is a critical measure for future preparation, but it is not the best or only approach. A balanced investment strategy covering all groups and core public domains is the most sustainable choice.

Task Response、Coherence and Cohesion、Lexical Resource、Grammatical Range and Accuracy四个评分维度的要求。
