There are two primary reasons for the rising popularity of online medical services. First, they offer unmatched accessibility and convenience. For people living in remote rural areas with no easy access to premium medical resources, or for patients with limited mobility such as the elderly or disabled, online consultations remove the need for long, tiring trips to hospitals. For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, online medical platforms allowed millions of people to seek medical advice without the risk of cross-infection in crowded hospitals. Second, digital medical services are often more time-efficient and cost-effective: patients do not need to wait in long queues for hours, and can even get repeat prescriptions for chronic conditions delivered directly to their homes with a few taps on their phones.

From my perspective, this is a largely positive development. It reduces the heavy burden on overstretched public hospital systems, as many minor ailments such as common colds or routine follow-up checks for chronic diseases can be handled online, freeing up in-hospital resources for patients with severe or emergency conditions. Admittedly, there are small risks of misdiagnosis when doctors cannot conduct in-person physical examinations, but most reputable platforms now require strict qualification checks for practitioners and reserve in-person referrals for complicated cases, which mitigates this risk effectively.

In conclusion, the popularity of online medical services stems from their convenience and efficiency, and overall they represent a beneficial progress that makes healthcare more accessible to the general public.
