Opinions are divided on whether climate change poses a threat to commercial activities or brings new commercial possibilities. While I acknowledge the risks climate change brings to certain industries, I believe it also generates unprecedented opportunities for forward-thinking businesses.

On the one hand, climate change does create severe challenges for many traditional businesses. First, industries that rely heavily on stable natural conditions, such as agriculture and coastal tourism, face direct losses: rising temperatures and frequent extreme weather like droughts and hurricanes destroy crops, damage coastal resorts, and disrupt supply chains, raising operational costs sharply. Additionally, stricter government carbon regulations penalize high-emission businesses such as fossil fuel producers; for example, many coal mining companies have faced bankruptcy as countries phase out coal power to cut emissions.

On the other hand, climate change opens up vast new business opportunities. The global push for low-carbon development has spurred booming demand for green products and services: the renewable energy sector (solar panel manufacturing, wind farm construction) has seen annual growth of over 20% in the past decade, creating millions of jobs and huge profits. Even traditional sectors can benefit: carmakers that shifted early to electric vehicles, like Tesla, have grown into industry leaders by capturing the eco-conscious consumer market, while businesses offering climate adaptation services (such as flood-resistant construction and carbon consulting) are also expanding rapidly.

In my view, climate change is ultimately a catalyst for positive business transformation. While high-carbon, nature-dependent businesses that fail to adapt will suffer losses, agile enterprises that respond to environmental demands will gain long-term competitive advantages. The net effect depends on whether businesses can proactively adjust their strategies to align with the global low-carbon trend.
