Some people think that the government should pay for health care and education, but others believe it is not the government's responsibility. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

It is often argued whether governments should take financial responsibility for public healthcare and education, or if these costs should be handled by other parties. This essay will examine both perspectives before explaining why state funding for these core services is essential.

On one hand, opponents of government spending on health and education argue that individual citizens should bear responsibility for their own and their children’s needs, as it can reduce unnecessary strain on public budgets. They contend that taxation collected for universal public services often disproportionately supports people who make unhealthy lifestyle choices or opt out of contributing to the system, which is unfair to hardworking taxpayers. For example, they point to private insurance and private schooling as more efficient alternatives, where users only pay for services they access directly, avoiding wasteful public spending.

On the other hand, supporters of government-funded healthcare and education highlight that these services are fundamental to social equality and national development. Without state support, low-income families would be locked out of quality medical treatment and formal education, widening wealth gaps and perpetuating intergenerational poverty. For instance, the UK’s National Health Service and free public schooling system have successfully reduced preventable death rates and lifted literacy rates to over 99% since their launch, laying a solid foundation for long-term economic growth.

In my opinion, governments have an obligation to fund basic healthcare and primary/secondary education as universal public goods. While supplementary private services can exist as options, the state must ensure equal access to these core services to build a fair, stable society, as the long-term social and economic benefits far outweigh the upfront costs.

(On one hand、On the other hand、For instance、In my opinion)引导读者在观点间切换,每段有单一清晰的中心主题。
