Whether or not a person achieves their aims in life is mostly related to luck. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It is sometimes argued that luck is the primary determinant of whether people can attain their life goals. I completely disagree with this view, as I believe consistent effort and clear planning are far more essential to success.
Admittedly, random fortunate events can occasionally create opportunities. For example, a person might accidentally meet an industry expert at a social event and land a dream job, or a small business owner might benefit from an unexpected viral trend that boosts sales. However, such lucky breaks rarely lead to sustained success if the person lacks the competence to capitalise on them. A candidate who gets a job interview by chance will fail to get the position if they have not developed relevant skills, and a business that goes viral will quickly collapse if it cannot deliver quality products or services.
In reality, most life achievements are the direct result of deliberate preparation and persistence. Luck is unpredictable and cannot be relied on, but setting realistic targets, working steadily towards them, and learning from failures puts people in a position to seize opportunities when they arise. For instance, the Chinese athlete Su Bingtian did not break the Asian 100-metre record by luck: he spent years adjusting his running form, following strict training schedules, and refining his technique, which eventually allowed him to perform to his full potential at the Tokyo Olympics. Countless other successful people, from scientists to entrepreneurs, attribute their accomplishments to years of hard work rather than random chance.
In conclusion, while luck may play a minor, occasional role in bringing opportunities, it is dedicated effort and careful preparation that are the main factors behind achieving life goals.
