In my view, governments absolutely should provide more financial support to local film industries. For one thing, domestic films are a key carrier of native cultural values and collective memory. With government grants, local filmmakers can produce works that reflect local lives, pass on traditional culture, and strengthen national cultural identity, such as South Korea's state-funded films that promote Korean cultural heritage globally. For another, a thriving local film industry can create huge economic benefits, driving the development of related sectors including tourism, catering and peripheral products. Without public funding, many talented local directors and production teams may struggle to make high-quality works, leading to a monopolised market dominated by foreign cultural products.

In conclusion, higher production standards and diverse cultural content explain the popularity of foreign films, and government financial support is necessary to help local film industries develop healthily.
