Organized tours to remote places and communities are now popular. Is this a positive development for the local people and the environment?

Organized tours to remote places and communities bring far more negative outcomes than benefits for local residents and the natural environment, despite seeming economic merits at first glance.

Admittedly, well-operated tours can bring limited income to underdeveloped remote areas. For example, some mountain villages in southwest China once sold agricultural products at very low prices due to inconvenient transportation, and tour groups have given locals more sales channels. However, these economic gains are far outweighed by harms. For local people, massive tour groups often disrupt their traditional lifestyle and social order: loud tourists, unregulated commercial stalls and rising living costs erode the quiet, self-sufficient local culture, and many young locals abandon traditional crafts to do low-paid service jobs for travel agencies, leading to the loss of cultural heritage.

For the environment, the damage is more irreversible. Remote ecosystems, such as high-altitude wetlands and Arctic tundra, are extremely fragile and take centuries to recover once damaged. Large organized tours produce huge amounts of non-degradable waste, trample native vegetation and disturb wild animals; for instance, the organized tours to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in recent years have left tons of plastic waste near sacred lakes, threatening endangered Tibetan antelopes' habitats. While some tours claim to be eco-friendly, most lack strict supervision, and profit-driven operators rarely invest enough in environmental protection.

In conclusion, the rising popularity of organized tours to remote regions is largely a negative trend, as it damages local cultural traditions and fragile ecosystems for short-term, unevenly distributed economic benefits.

Task Response、Coherence and Cohesion、Lexical Resource、Grammatical Range and Accuracy四个维度的评分要求。
